What is a Mill Certificate?

This article provides a detailed explanation of what a Mill Certificate is.

Updated over 4 months ago

A mill certificate, or material test report (MTR), is a quality assurance document that certifies the chemical and physical properties of a material. Commonly used in the metals industry, it ensures that the material meets the specified standards and requirements of the order. Mill certificates are critical in industries such as construction, manufacturing, and metalworking to ensure the materials used are reliable and fit for purpose, particularly in safety-sensitive projects like engineering and infrastructure.

At Geomiq, we require manufacturing partners to provide mill certificates upon request.

These certificates can either be a Standard Mill Certificate or a 3.1 Mill Certificate depending on the specific requirements:

  • Standard Mill Certificate: This certificate confirms the material properties but does not adhere to any recognized international standards.

  • 3.1 Mill Certificate: A 3.1 mill certificate complies with international standards, as defined by EN 10204. It is issued by an independent authority and validated by the manufacturer, providing a higher level of quality assurance.
